Physiotherapy for dogs, cats, and horses aids recovery and rehabilitation to reduce pain, swelling, and muscle spasm. It helps to encourage healing and improve range of movement, prevents secondary complications, enhances and/or maintains function.
Physiotherapists examine movement and posture. Their expertise is developed by having an in-depth knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, pathology and physiology which enables them to assess and treat injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system.
Conditions treated by our pet physiotherapists include:- Post orthopaedic surgery cases
- Spinal pain
- Tendon and ligament muscle strains
- Muscle atrophy
- Nerve damage
- Arthritic stiffness

Hydrotherapy provides an excellent therapy for dogs in need of careful rehabilitation after an injury or those who are suffering with orthopaedic or neurological conditions.. The warmth of the water assists with pain relief and the reduction of muscle spasm. By immersing a patient, support is provided allowing mobilisation and creating normal movement patterns.
Cardiovascular fitness can be increased more easily in the water, this is perfect if a patient is on restricted land exercise. Finally, the hydrostatic pressure can aid swelling reduction.

Muscular injuries aren’t always obvious, but if your dog just ‘doesn’t seem right’ and displays any of the symptoms listed here, then it could be time to ‘ask an expert’, as canine massage might be just the intervention your dog needs.
Upon veterinary referral, dogs are taken for clinical canine massage for many reasons including:
- Pain management for arthritis, hip/elbow dysplasia, spondylosis, luxating patella
- Rehabilitation of muscular injuries such as lameness, stiffness or struggling with the normal activities of daily living
- Performance, gait, and posture issues in sporting and showing dogs
- Addressing and resolving pain symptoms

At Petffisio, formerly ‘West Wales Vet Physio’, we believe that good rehabilitation using vet physiotherapy is integral to the success of recovery from many orthopaedic, neurological, and a variety of soft tissue conditions.
Vet Physiotherapy intervention promotes mobility, reduces pain, inflammation and improves the overall rate of recovery for the dog, cat or horse that needs treatment.
- Physiotherapy rehabilitation for outpatient needs, in addition to hydrotherapy, ensures that patients have the most effective recovery possible.
- Physiotherapy rehabilitation improves joint range of motion and aids the return of muscle function following injury or surgery.
- Our classes and one-to-one workshops, near Carmarthen in West Wales, can be an integral part of an animal’s regular exercise programme to manage weight loss, improved cardiovascular function and overall well-being.
Ailments we treat with Physiotherapy rehabilitation and dog hydrotherapy include Cruciate ligament rupture (post-operative or conservative management), hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, luxating patella, arthritis, degenerative myelopathy (CDRM), spinal injuries (including disc rupture, fractures and spondylosis).
All our Physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy treatments are available in our clinic, or we can come to you to treat with Physiotherapy, (see our prices as fuel is charged if you are beyond 20 miles of our clinic). I’m looking froward to aiding your pet in their recovery,
